Christmas Lunch in Thailand

For expats and visitors who are in Thailand over the Christmas period, a common question is what to do for Christmas Day. If you’re like me, then you’ll be keen to find some form of traditional Christmas Lunch to enjoy a little bit of traditional festive spirit even though you’re away from home.

Despite being a strongly Buddhist country, Thailand has really taken to Christmas, and in particular, Christmas Day Lunch! There are many options available throughout Thailand to enjoy a traditional Christmas lunch or dinner, ranging from a simple home-style roast lunch, through to extravagant buffets of food from around the world.

The easiest place to find good Christmas day lunches is of course Bangkok. All of the bbig hotels offer a delicious buffet spread including roast meats and vegetables, as well as Japanese and Chinese cuisines, and even seafood galore!

If you’re not in Bangkok, you can also find these kinds of Christmas Day lunches available at major hotels, and often Irish and English style pubs. These pubs will often offer a traditional roast lunch and perhaps even Christmas cake as part of a set-price Christmas day lunch.

Depending on the popularity of the establishment, bookings will need to be made in advance. Some bookings will need to be made quite early if you plan to go to major hotels in Bangkok. It’s also a good idea to shop around, as some may offer discounts for early bookings, or for those who pay with a certain credit card. For example, city bank credit card holders will find there are a number of hotels in Bangkok and Chiang Mai which will offer a substantial discount if you use your city bank card to pay for your meal.

For expats and visitors alike, these places are a great way to enjoy the Christmas spirit and festivities during your stay in Thailand.
