Tips on meditating in Thailand
Posted by paul on December 16th, 2008 filed in Culture & customs, VisitingThe style of meditation practiced in Thailand is based on Buddhist teachings, believing that the human’s natural state is contentment despite the painful world in which people live in. For this reason, I assume it is most interesting to learn meditation skills from the Buddhist monks.
Different meditation centres and temples offer a wide variety of environments and practices. Several temples aren’t tranquil enough, lack skilled teachers and have too many visitors while others provide supportive conditions that are excellent for meditating.

You could attend lessons at the monastery known as Suan Mokkh located in the southern province of Surat Thani. Another option which is worthwhile to check out is Goenka’s Vipassana Centres online by visiting www.dhamma.org
Throughout Thailand there are plentiful good meditation options such as the recently opened centre in the northern town of Lamphun. Those preferring Western teachers should head to Koh Phangan and check out the Wat Kow Tahm International Meditation Centre.
