The first person recognising the exceptional beauty of Hua Hin was Prince Nares, King Rama V’s Minister of Public Works. Being impressed by the environment, in 1911 Nares decided building a charming residence, which he named: ‘Saen Samran Royal Residence’. A little later another prince constructed a residence (Ban Plub Pa) here as well, within a stone’s throw from the Saen Samran Royal Residence.

Within the next five years more gorgeous residences were constructed at Hua Hin’s northern end by other Royal Family members. The completion of the southern railway project linking the Kingdom to British Malaya took place in 1916. This significant rail route was one of the main reasons for the decreasing popularity of Hua Hin among Bangkok’s elite and many started visiting the place.

Until the year 1922 the dining and lodging amenities were very limited for the train passengers making a stop at the railway station. The State Railway’s director during that time, Prince Purachatra soon understood the discomfort of the lack of facilities and took steps to offer better and more dining and accommodation facilities.

In 1923, the superbly in a Victorian architectural constructed, Railway Hotel opened its doors. In addition, the hotel featured an outstanding international restaurant. Today, this hotel is known as the Sofitel Central.

A few months later after the opening of the prestigious Railway Hotel the King approved the plan building Siam’s first standard Royal Hua Hin Golf Course.

Another Royal Family member being impressed by Hua Hin’s surrounding wonderful landscapes and pristine beauty was Prince Prajadhipok. As a result he ordered the building of Klai Kangwon Palace, which even today is still used by several Royal Family members.

The Royal Family introduced one after the other new attraction in Hua Hin. More Royal developments in the area took place year after year and Hua Hin became one of the country’s top travel destinations, regularly visited by VIP persons from different provinces of the nation.

Hua Hin has undoubtedly transformed into a holidaymakers seaside resort of international allure. Despite the drastic development of the town’s tourist infrastructure, Hua Hin still retains to be a serene getaway, maintaining its royal roots.
